News
January 2010 - Legislation to make dog racing illegal is heard in the House of Representatives.
June 2009 - Victory for the Greyhounds—Dog Racing Ends in New Hampshire! Read the Action Alert!
February 2009 - A new campaign web site is launched in support of HB 630, the New Hampshire Greyhound Protection Act.
December 2008 - Bowing to public pressure and facing financial struggles, Hinsdale Greyhound Park declares bankruptcy and turns in its gambling license to the New Hampshire Racing and Charitable Gaming Commission.
November 2008 - New legislation is filed to phase out dog racing in the state.
May 2008 - HB 1430 is signed by Governor Lynch, restoring racing dogs and horses to the state's anti-cruelty law. Dog track lobbyists had worked to remove them from the statute ten years before.
July 2007 - All dog tracks in the state become seasonal, offering live racing just 50 days a year from May to August.
June 2007 - Lawmakers repeal a $2 million subsidy for dog track drug testing programs. Before this change, the New Hampshire tax payers had been reimbursing the tracks for this cost.
April 2007 - HB 923 to phase out dog racing loses in a close vote. Senator Sheila Roberge and Representative Steve Vaillancourt lead the team of lawmakers fighting for our bill.
February 2007 - GREY2K USA issues a report showing that over 700 dogs have been injured while racing in New Hampshire in 2005 and 2005 at Seabrook, Hinsdale and the Lodge at Belmont.
April 2006 - A $325,000 annual subsidy to racetracks is repealed. Money had been diverted from a special education trust fund for schoolchildren so that dog tracks could offer higher prizes. HB 1612 passed on a close vote.
June 2004 - Overriding Governor Benson's veto, the New Hampshire legislature overwhelmingly votes to create a new recordkeeping system for racing greyhounds. HB 520 requires that the Hinsdale, Seabrook and Belmont tracks begin reporting on the injuries suffered by dogs while racing. Representative Paul LaFlamme, now a GREY2K USA board member, leads the fight for this important measure.
