Greyhound Injury Records Released

Newly-produced records for racing greyhounds show that Wisconsin’s single track has one of the highest injury rates in the country. All documentation was provided by Wisconsin Department of Administration, Division of Gaming in response to statutory public information requests.

According to the Division, three hundred and sixty-one (361) injuries were reported at the Dairyland Greyhound Park in 2008. Dairyland is open for live racing year round.

The most commonly reported injuries were muscle tears and bone fractures. TristarChloe fell into the rail, Cals Banana Man was run over by three other dogs, and Mustang McNabb tripped and broke his neck exiting the starting box. These dogs are among the seven (7) that died while racing or were euthanized post-race.
