VICTORY! Last dog race held in Arkansas on Saturday

Dear Friend,

Your voice is needed now to pass House Bill 6615 and outlaw dog racing in Connecticut! This timely measure was introduced by Representative Mike D’Agostino and you can help by personally asking your State Representative and State Senator to support his bill. Let’s make Connecticut the 43rd state to say no to dog racing!

Use this official link to identify your state lawmakers. (Just fill in your address and click “Find.”) Then simply send an email asking them to “co-sponsor HB 6615 to outlaw dog racing.” Be sure to say that you are a constituent and give your full name and address.

For more information, please read my February 16 testimony before the General Law Committee -- but please take action today. This humane bill will close the door on greyhound cruelty once and for all.

Four key points:

  • HB 6615 makes dog racing illegal in Connecticut. It is time that we join with the overwhelming majority of US states that have already voted to protect greyhounds.

  • Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane. Gentle hounds are kept in warehouse style kennels, in cages which are barely large enough for them to stand up or turn around. When let out to race, they suffer terrible injuries and sometimes die. In the state of West Virginia alone, more than 10,000 innocent hounds have been injured over the last five racing seasons.

  • Young greyhounds are frequently trained with live lures. Jack rabbits and other small animals are chased, mauled and killed on greyhound breeding farms across the country.

  • Greyhound racing is now illegal in 42 states and throughout New England. Connecticut has a solid reputation for animal protection and should join these states in saying no to dog racing. Without a change in law, the state’s dog tracks could reopen at any time.

Thank you for your help. If you need a sample message to send, please do not hesitate to contact me. Then, please forward any responses you receive to christine@grey2kusa.org and look for updates on our website anytime.
