Dear Friends,
Did you know that there are sixteen dog tracks in Ireland? The good news is that the latest annual report by the Irish Greyhound Board shows that interest in racing continues to decline. The number of races is decreasing and the amount wagered is dropping by the millions — a 63% decline since 2005! Harold’s Cross Stadium in Dublin is the latest track to close.

If it were not for the over €140 million in government subsidies received by the tracks since 2005, it is likely that dog racing would have ended in the beautiful Emerald Isle long ago. We applaud groups like the Limerick Animal Welfare, Erin Hounds and the Galway SPCA for working hard to expose the cruelty and corruption of this industry, and save as many innocent lives as possible. Just this week, Pet Levrieri of Italy received 20 rescued Irish greyhounds from these shelters, showing that protecting greyhounds is a team effort!
