Greyhound Friends,
Great news! This morning, a proposal to decouple greyhound racing from other forms
of gambling (House Bill 1145) passed its first committee in the Florida House. The vote
was nearly unanimous, with just one member dissenting.
GREY2K USA President and General Counsel Christine Dorchak testified before
lawmakers on behalf of the greyhounds, and some of her comments were reported this
afternoon by the Miami Herald. We are pictured above after the vote with our legislative agent Marc Reichelderfer.
This victory means that greyhound decoupling has real momentum in Florida. Just last
week, a nearly identical bill (Senate Bill 1594) passed its first committee in the Florida
Senate, meaning that both chambers of the legislature are now seriously considering this
humane proposal.
If these bills become law, they will help thousands of greyhounds in the Sunshine State.
Greyhound injuries will decrease, and the number of dogs that endure lives of terrible
confinement will drop.
While we are pleased to see this progress, the fight is far from over. If you have not
contacted your state lawmakers in support of these bills, please do so right away.
Specifically, please e-mail AND call your State Representative and State Senator. Tell
them how important these bills are to you, and politely ask them if they have a position
yet on greyhound decoupling. Also, be sure to forward any responses to receive from
your lawmakers to christine@grey2kusa.org.

Please reach out to your lawmakers today on these important bills. Together, we can
make sure the greyhounds finally receive the help they deserve.
