Dear Friends,
In the coming days, the West Virginia House will vote on a bill to decouple greyhound racing from other forms of gambling and eliminate $15 million in annual subsidies for dog races. We are very close to winning this important victory, but need your help to get over the finish line!
|
Please call and email ALL of the following Delegates right now, and ask them to Vote YES on Senate Bill 437.
|
-
By ending greyhound subsidies, the state will have $15 million in annual funding that can be used for important state programs like education, health care and law enforcement.
-
Greyhound breeders have made false claims about jobs and the economic impact of dog racing. This is a small industry with virtually no economic impact beyond the subsidies it takes from state coffers.
-
Two-thirds of all subsidy dollars leave West Virginia and are paid to greyhound breeders in other states. At Wheeling, more subsidy dollars are paid to Kansas residents than to West Virginia residents. This cruelty should not be rewarded.
-
A handful of greyhound breeders are being enriched by these subsidies, with about half of the subsidies being given to only 10 individuals.
- The state is on the verge of losing money on greyhound racing because dog race revenues no longer cover the cost of regulation.
|
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to help thousands of gentle dogs by ending the cruelty of greyhound racing in your state. Please make your calls and send your emails right away!
