Your voice is needed urgently to pass House Bill 6615 to ban dog racing in Connecticut. The 2023 legislative session ends on June 7, so there is no time to waste.

Thankfully, HB 6615 has already passed the House with 28 co-sponsors. You can help now by personally asking your State Senator to call for a vote in the Senate. Please do two things today.

First, use this official link to identify your State Senator. (Just fill in your address and click “Find.”) Then simply send an email asking for the member to “call for a vote on HB 6615 to outlaw dog racing.” For extra impact, please call your Senator too. Be sure to say that you are a constituent and give your full name and address.

Unless HB 6615 is passed, dog racing could come back at any time!

Four key points:

HB 6615 makes dog racing illegal in Connecticut. It is time to join with the overwhelming majority of US states that have already voted to protect greyhounds.

Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane. Gentle greyhounds are kept in small stacked cages inside warehouse style kennels for 23 hours a day. When let out to race, they suffer terrible injuries. In the state of West Virginia, over 11,000 injuries have been reported and just since 2021, sixteen greyhounds have been killed.

Young greyhounds are frequently trained with live lures. Jack rabbits and other small animals are chased, mauled and killed on greyhound breeding farms across the country.

Greyhound racing is now illegal in 42 states and throughout New England. Connecticut has a solid reputation for animal protection and should join these states in saying no to this derelict and discredited form of gambling.
