Help save me from the dog track

Dear Friends,
We have exciting news to share today!

The GREY2K USA Education Fund has partnered with GreaterGood and the Animal Rescue Site to sponsor needy greyhounds as they are released from dog tracks. Our Second Chance for Greyhounds Fund will help adoption groups across the country save more greyhounds than ever before.

Dogs in the racing industry are victims of standard practices that are cruel and inhumane. At racetracks across the country, thousands of greyhounds endure lives of terrible confinement and are fed a diet based on diseased meat. They are kept in small stacked cages for long hours each day, increasing their risk of serious injury when they are sent to race. Common injuries for racing greyhounds include broken legs, paralysis, seizures and head trauma. Greyhound rescue groups move quickly to receive these dogs, but they must often make the heartbreaking decision to leave dogs behind because of the severity of their injuries. With limited resources, these groups simply cannot afford to take them all to safety.

Only last month, we were notified of a dog in jeopardy on a Midwest breeding farm. Just a puppy, she had broken her leg while training, and her “owner” was threatening to kill her unless she was picked up that night. The adoption group had to choose between taking several uninjured dogs or just this one. That hard choice was made and another innocent life was lost to this cruel industry…

The GREY2K USA Education Fund wants to stop this from ever happening again. While our sister group, GREY2K USA Worldwide is working harder than ever to end dog racing, we are dedicated to greyhound adoption. Our new Second Chance for Greyhounds Fund will allow us to help more dogs and allow rescue groups to say “yes” to every greyhound in need. Large numbers of greyhounds leave tracks each month, and while some may not have suffered serious injury, they all require medical attention since they are not spayed or neutered and have never received proper veterinary care like dental cleaning.

You can help. Make a tax-deductible donation to save greyhounds now. And if you have room in your heart and your home for a new friend, please check out our adoption referral page today.
