Twin River Ending Dog Racing—Call Lawmakers NOW!

Dear Friends:

Dog racing may soon end in the Ocean State, but your help is needed now to ensure victory for the greyhounds.

Earlier this week, the owners of Rhode Island’s only dog track, Twin River, officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in United States District Court. The good news is that the current reorganization plan is based on ending dog racing! Dogs have been raced at the facility since 1977, when the track was known as Lincoln Park.

Get the facts in Wednesday’s Providence Journal story.

Even though live dog racing is costing the state $10 million each year, and contrary to the position of Twin River’s owners, Rhode Island legislators have not yet agreed to the restructuring proposal. Current state law now mandates that the dog track hold 125 days of live racing each year, and it is up to lawmakers to repeal this requirement.

Let’s all urge them to do so!

Please contact Massachusetts and New Hampshire—to bring an end to an outdated activity that harms dogs. (New York and New Jersey never even legalized dog racing in the first place).

This is moving very quickly so please e-mail or call your STATE Senator in General Assembly and STATE Representative in General Assembly right away.

Thanks for caring about the greyhounds!
