Happy Days! Demolished dog tracks become sites for new schools, businesses, housing & more

Dear Friends,

The last several years have seen a succession of track closures. In the United States alone, since the formation of GREY2K USA, twenty-six tracks have closed for live racing, more than cutting the cruelty of dog racing in half.

We are now happy to report that many former dog tracks have been redeveloped for the community good. Anthony Downs of Kansas was auctioned off on Friday with plans for a business and accompanying housing units. St. Croix Meadows of Wisconsin closed in 2001 and will soon be the site of a complex of new school buildings.

Following the end of racing at Mile High, the Colorado track was made available for better activities. Razed in 2011, the property will soon be the home of a new Boys and Girls Club. Two Florida tracks, Seminole Greyhound Park and Key West Kennel Club were also demolished to make way for the creation of hundreds of homes, a town center, church auditorium and 20-acre park. Also of note was the leveling of Shoreline Star of Connecticut in 2007 for a new municipal center and animal adoption center!

Thankfully, progress is also occurring overseas. Portsmouth dog track as well as Walthamstow, two of England's oldest dog tracks, are now both closed and plans are underway to create new jobs and build thousands of homes on the properties.

To celebrate this "greyt" progress and to help raise needed funds for our continuing fight, we invite you to participate in our latest campaign auction. We received some very interesting items this time, including a greyhound tie, doggy toy box and a classic greyhound painting. Every item was donated by wonderful volunteers just like you.

Help end dog racing and bring new life to communities nationwide by bidding today.

Good luck to all!
