Urgent Plea to All Grassroots Activists from GREY2K USA Executive Director Carey M. Theil

Dear Friends,

The fate of thousands of greyhounds is in your hands.

Because of your hard work we passed the Greyhound Protection Act in 2008, ending greyhound racing in Massachusetts. However, local gamblers are still being allowed to bet remotely on dog races in other states, as if our ballot question campaign never happened!

As a state we are still supporting greyhound cruelty, and this must end.

On several occasions, greyhound friendly lawmakers have tried to end greyhound simulcasting, but their efforts have fallen short. Next week, we are going to try one more time for the greyhounds. To win, we need your help.

State Representative Cheryl Coakley-Rivera is filing an amendment to phase out greyhound simulcasting, and lawmakers will vote on her proposal next week during a debate on casinos.

Please call your State Representative immediately, and ask her/him to cosponsor Rep. Coakley-Rivera's Greyhound Protection Amendment. To find the phone number of your State Representative, click here. (Please note that you need to call your State Representative, not U.S. Representative.) The deadline for State Representatives to sign up as cosponsors is Friday (tomorrow) at noon. So please make your call right now!

This might be our last chance to end greyhound simulcasting in Massachusetts, and I am counting on you to carry the day. We won the vote in 2008 because of the hard work of grassroots activists like you. I am asking you to help the greyhounds one last time.

Please make your call immediately, then forward this e-mail to everyone you know. The greyhounds cannot speak for themselves, and are counting on us to be their voice.
