CALLS NEEDED! Greyhound Protection Act under threat

Dear Friends,

We all remember the wonderful moment when Question 3, the Greyhound Protection Act, passed into law. In November 2008, Massachusetts citizens went to the polls and overwhelmingly voted to outlaw all forms of gambling on greyhound races. After ten years of fighting to close down Wonderland and Raynham Parks, we finally succeeded as a humane community in rejecting the cruelty of dog racing.

But part of this historic victory is now under threat.

House 9, a bill to be heard on Tuesday, September 19 would allow local racetracks to offer betting on dog races taking place in other states. Called “simulcasting,” Question 3 prohibited this activity but the legislature has allowed it to continue on a “temporary” basis for years. Enough is enough! It is time that lawmakers honor the will of the voters.

Please contact the Senate President, the House Speaker and the two Chairpersons of the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure right away.

Tell them:
· Please take greyhound racing out of House Bill 9.
· You voted for Question 3 in 2008 and want them to honor your vote.

By allowing people in our state to place wagers on the deadly and fixed races taking place in Florida and other states, we are betting on cruelty and defying the will of the voters on Question 3. Read our bill fact sheet for more talking points.
