Today, I am writing to you with the best news ever. Amendment 13, our Florida ballot question, passed by a definitive supermajority of 69% - 31% on Election Day! It’s impossible to overstate the importance of this measure, which phases out dog racing in its biggest US state by December 2020. A fatal blow has been dealt to the American greyhound racing industry, and a message has been sent worldwide that cruelty to greyhounds will no longer be tolerated.
This victory will help thousands of innocent dogs, and is clear confirmation of our campaign methodology. The hounds won with a grassroots effort that was politically adept and based on a sound policy argument.
GREY2K would never have won this landmark victory without your partnership and support, but our work isn’t done! Over the next two years we will support adoption efforts in Florida as Amendment 13 takes effect. We will focus our attention on the five remaining American states in which dog racing remains legal and operational. We will also strategically support and engage with our allies in the six other racing countries.
